Relevant work in the U.S.A.

The U.S. National Environmental Education Foundation has commissioned ten years of surveys evaluating Americans' environmental literacy. View their 2005 report (152 pages).

The Nebraska Alliance for Conservation and Environmental Education conducted a 2003 survey on environmental literacy.  View their summary report (4 pages) and methodology report.

Relevant work in Canada and Alberta

James Hoggan and Associates and McAllister Opinion Research interviewed over 3000 Canadians to create the 2006 Sustainability Poll.


Equus Consulting group polled Albertans in connection with the governments' Water for Life program (2002, 19 pages).

Parks Canada has created a 31 page 2007 document entitled 'Parks EcoIntegrity Attitudes, Knowledge and Support (PEAKS)'

Although not immediately relevant to environmental literacy, Alberta Ecotrust surveyed over 240 environmental stakeholders to create 'Maximizing Effectiveness:  An Assessment of Environmental Priorities and Voluntary Sector Capacity Needs in Alberta.'


Reading on market-based mechanisms for achieving environmental goals

Canada West Foundation has made two relevant contributions.  'What's in it for me? Exploring Natural Capital Incentives' (39 pages) and, more specifically  'Getting it Straight: A Guide to Economic Policy Instruments for Addressing Climate Change' (15 pages).
