2008 Leadership Clinic Planning Committee
ACEE is very grateful for the contributions of several volunteers who donate their time - and considerable expertise - to help plan the leadership clinic:
Nan Buckardt is widely considered to be the queen of the leadership clinic! Whether as a participant, organizer, or facilitator, Nan has organized, facilitated, and participated in no less than 10 leadership clinics throughout North America and two in Taiwan. In her day job, Nan is an Environmental Education Manager for a local government open-space agency in Illinois, and she is also very active participating in a number of leadership activities in that state. Nan will facilitate the 2008 ACEE leadership clinic.
Sue Staniforth is an educator and biologist specializing in environmental education at regional, national and international levels. Her emphasis is on transformational educational approaches that go beyond information transfer to promoting change in behaviour. Sue has over twenty-five years of innovative environmental education experience, including the development of over a dozen learning resources on topics from action learning to biodiversity, program evaluation at provincial and national levels, and facilitating professional development for teachers & environmental groups. Sue is also assisting ACEE as an external evaluator of its key programs over the next three years.
Kathy Worobec is The Pembina Institute's Director of Alberta
GreenLearning, and a member of the Board of ACEE. Kathy has over 20
years of experience in developing, implementing, delivering and
managing environmental education programs for youth and teachers, and
worked as a consultant before joining the non-profit environmental education sector as The Pembina Institute's Director of
Alberta.
Michael Mappin is the Coordinator of Experiential Education & Outreach Programs at the University of Calgary Biogeoscience Institute, where this clinic will take place. He has over twenty years experience in environmental education and co-edited "Environmental Education and Advocacy: Changing Perspectives of Ecology and Education", published by Cambridge University Press (2005), which addresses differing perspectives of action in education and advocacy.
Gareth Thomson is Executive Director of ACEE and has twenty years experience in environmental education, including direct delivery, training, and capacity building. He was privileged to attend a 2005 leadership clinic facilitated by Nan Buckardt, which was instrumental in launching ACEE’s programs.
