Integrating EE into Grade 2

To select the following references we focused on the following Alberta Science and Social Studies curricula: science units ‘Hot and Cold Temperatures’ and ‘Small Crawling and Flying Animals;’ and social studies units ‘Canada’s Dynamic Communities’ and ‘A Community in the Past.’

  • "Pond Pals:" A field study where students discover how plants and animals meet their needs in a pond community.
  • "Plunge-In! A look at pond life, take home book:" Provides the student with an aquatic invertebrate checklist. Activities include "Whose kid is that?," "Insect Mix-up," and "Secret Message Crossword."
  • "Aquatic Animal Identification Guide:" This detailed illustrated guidebook allows students to identify the various aquatic invertebrates that inhabit standing and moving water bodies.
