2008 Environmental Education Leadership Clinic Pictures and Resources

Some adjectives used by  Leadership clinic participants: “Entertaining, collaborative, cooperative, educational, unique, valuable, creative, action-oriented.”
The great opportunity to share, learn and network with other environmental educators is invaluable for continuous action in the community. It facilitates PD and formalized processes to be shared as a logic model and a toolkit.”

- City of Calgary Team

“This clinic was such a worthwhile opportunity for me as an individual and for my team. Through the expertise of presenters and facilitators we were able to successfully work towards our action goal. The other participants also provided a wealth of information and expertise. The location, format and content of this clinic was extremely valuable.”

-Linda Hut, Green Learning Pembina Institute/Westglen School Edmonton

“For me, the session was incredibly rich in diverse professional development, generated great synergies between groups who attended and helped transform initial ideas to concrete, doable action plans.”

-Johan Stroman, GreenLearning Canada

What the teams accomplished:

  1. Campus Calgary/Open Minds optimized their program so that teachers and students will more consistently ‘get to action’ in their classrooms.
  2. Banff National Park applied social marketing principles to create a science-based outreach plan for the Cave and Basin National Historic Site.
  3. GreenLearning Canada used logic models and a collaborative relationship with Campus Calgary/Open Minds to create a plan that will more deeply engage teachers in valuing, supporting, and implementing Greenlearning.
  4. The City of Calgary environmental education team developed a collaboration framework that will guide, enhance, and nurture the partnerships that are essential to their work.
  5. Calgary Board of Education EcoTeam developed Action Plans and projects that not only will save a million dollars in the 2008/9 school year (through a 10% reduction in the CBE electricity bill), but will also help teachers and students learn about and practice energy conservation.
  6. Team WPAC (Watershed Planning and Advisory Council) will increase stewardship in   four Alberta watersheds though a logic model and plan to engage First Nations, stewardship groups, and government.
  7. The Recycling Council of Alberta will engage organizations and individuals, and generate much more participation in Waste Reduction Week (October 18 -24, 2009) through their new logic model and evaluation scheme.
  8. First Nations (Alberta) Technical Services Advisory Group generated a detailed plan to create and nurture ‘community stewardship champions’ in First Nations communities throughout Alberta.
