One of the best tools to do this is education: teaching about basic ecology and the conservation of Alberta’s wildlife and ecosystems increases environmental literacy and builds an ethic of environmental responsibility. Through our unique education programs, we seek to create a community of knowledgeable, empowered citizens who engage in stewardship and positive environmental action to conserve ecosystems, wilderness and protected areas.

What makes CAC unique is our Champions - national, Olympic and Paralympic athletes who deliver our message. These top athletes are passionate about physical activity and the health of our environment. Their involvement in CAC and personal stories inspire others to get active.

Our curriculum-based multidisciplinary program, Clean Air Achievers, provides a fun and interactive opportunity for students in Grades 6 - 9 to explore transportation choices and the resulting impacts on air quality, climate change and health. Teachers receive all program materials, orientation and ongoing support at no cost. Champions visit the school twice - to kick off the program and to celebrate the success of the students.

CAA will be launched in Alberta in January 2008. Started in 1998 in response to teacher requests for environmental education (EE) materials Sierra Club's Education Program has grown into one of B.C.’s most effective EE providers. We know that a sustainable future relies on teaching today’s youth about ecological processes and about our interactions with the environment. We want young people to take stewardship action towards environmental issues but we want such action to be grounded in sound knowledge. We provide in-class programs to more than 10,000 students a year. Our dynamic website contains a variety of on-line and downloadable learning resources. We also make available curriculum guidebooks, Professional Development workshops, and monthly e-newsletters designed to connect B.C.’s teachers to EE learning resources and opportunities that are of high standards and are appropriate for in-class use.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights>
        <dc:type>Organization</dc:type>
