Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) Calgary/Banff Chapter
The Calgary-Banff chapter of Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) works to protect wild ecosystems in parks and protected areas. One of the best tools to do this is education: teaching about basic ecology and the conservation of Alberta’s wildlife and ecosystems increases environmental literacy and builds an ethic of environmental responsibility. Through our unique education programs, we seek to create a community of knowledgeable, empowered citizens who engage in stewardship and positive environmental action to conserve ecosystems, wilderness and protected areas.
Clean Air Champions
Clean Air Champions is a national charity that aims to educate and motivate Canadians to adopt practices and lifestyles that enhance both environmental and personal health. What makes CAC unique is our Champions - national, Olympic and Paralympic athletes who deliver our message. These top athletes are passionate about physical activity and the health of our environment. Their involvement in CAC and personal stories inspire others to get active. Our curriculum-based multidisciplinary program, Clean Air Achievers, provides a fun and interactive opportunity for students in Grades 6 - 9 to explore transportation choices and the resulting impacts on air quality, climate change and health. Teachers receive all program materials, orientation and ongoing support at no cost. Champions visit the school twice - to kick off the program and to celebrate the success of the students. Outward Bound Canada College
OBCC is an educational program that emphasizes experiential and integrated learning. This one- or two-semester residential program provides a challenging academic curriculum focusing on themes of ecoliteracy, combined with outdoor expeditions. Beyond the academics, the OBCC program is designed to foster self-management, leadership, and outdoor skills training. Taught by certified teachers, OBCC is for Grade 11 and 12 students who are independent, interested in the outdoors, and have a desire to succeed academically. Expeditions, including dog sledding, skiing, sea kayaking, white water canoeing, and rock climbing are used in conjunction with academic curriculum to create learning opportunities in and out of the classroom.
Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA)
CASA is a multi-stakeholder partnership, composed of industry, government and non-government organizations, committed to developing and applying a comprehensive air quality management system for all Albertans. CASA develops innovative solutions to complex air quality issues though a consensus-based process. CASA also operates an online Air Quality Education & Outreach Clearinghouse at http://www.casahome.org/?page_id=100.
Alberta Wilderness Association
AWA is a not-for-profit organization working towards more and better prepared wilderness in Alberta. AWA's mandate is "Defending Wild Alberta through Awareness and Action". We work to raise the profile of the tremendous resource of wilderness, wildlife and wild waters we have in the province, and to help people do what they can to protect them.
City of Edmonton
I develop public education programming for Drainage Services, Asset Management and Public Works, City of Edmonton. I have just launched our elementary school public education program for Grades 4 and 5, entitled "Treat it Right!" The programs link wastewater and storm water to the Alberta Education Program of studies. The programs have been provided to Grade 4 and 5 teachers in Edmonton.
Sierra Club of Canada, BC Chapter
The BC Chapter has long been committed to educating the next generation by connecting children with their environment. Started in 1998 in response to teacher requests for environmental education (EE) materials Sierra Club's Education Program has grown into one of B.C.’s most effective EE providers. We know that a sustainable future relies on teaching today’s youth about ecological processes and about our interactions with the environment. We want young people to take stewardship action towards environmental issues but we want such action to be grounded in sound knowledge. We provide in-class programs to more than 10,000 students a year. Our dynamic website contains a variety of on-line and downloadable learning resources. We also make available curriculum guidebooks, Professional Development workshops, and monthly e-newsletters designed to connect B.C.’s teachers to EE learning resources and opportunities that are of high standards and are appropriate for in-class use.
Camp Warwa
Camp Warwa provides positive outdoor recreation and learning programs for youth and adults. We are open year-round and provide team building, personal challenge, outdoor skills and cirriculum enhancement programs as well as summer camp programs for boys and girls ages 7-16 in July and August.
Sustainability Network - Boreal Learning Network
The Boreal Learning Network is a national project of the national Sustainability Network that brings together leaders in Boreal forest conservation nonprofits and key members of First Nations communities in a series of sessions that build cultural understanding and explore ways of working together. This project is unique because the sessions offer engaging, practical activities that compliment current issues and provide an opportunity for participants to reflect and share openly their goals, challenges and aspirations for the Boreal.
Parks in the Classroom
Developed and offered by Alberta Parks, Parks in the Classroom is an outreach education program dedicated to fostering environmental understanding, appreciation and stewardship in young Albertans. Designed to engage and educate students using a variety of mediums, this unique program features three distinct parts: a hilarious curricula-based musical theatre show, fun and interactive classroom sessions, and outdoor field sessions which immerse students in an experiential learning environment while challenging them to explore, discover and apply their knowledge. All aspects of the program address the Alberta Education Science and Social Studies Curriculum for multiple elementary grade levels and topics.
Alberta Emerald Foundation
The Alberta Emerald Foundation (AEF) models the way forward while encouraging and enabling others to be leaders in environmental behaviours and attitudes. Through its core program, the Emerald Awards, AEF recognizes significant contributions made by Albertans to preserve, protect and enhance the environment locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. Since 1991, the Foundation has showcased over 1,700 examples of outstanding environmental initiatives, setting a standard for others to follow.
Cityfarm
Cityfarm provides outdoor programs for school children and community groups. Our hands-on activities center on the discovery of nature on the farm and in the river valley, food production, animal care and adventure play. From September to June, Cityfarm facilitates the Little Green Thumbs indoor growing program in schools and agencies.
Alberta Tomorrow
A computer game has been developed to breathe life into sustainable development education by enabling students to develop resource management strategies and explore the future effects to Alberta’s wildlife, ecosystem services, and natural resource production. The game is online (www.albertatomorrow.ca) and free, and is based on cutting-edge natural resource management research and technology. Teacher guides and student activity sheets are available for the following Alberta curriculum links: grade 7 science, grade 9 social studies, junior high environmental and outdoor education, and grade 11 biology. Banff Wildlife Crossings Project
The Banff Wildlife Crossings Project offers interactive in-school presentations on the overpasses and underpasses of Banff National Park. Through a variety of slides, games and hands-on activities we explore how researchers monitor the wildlife crossings and view photos of the animals that use them. This program is offered to schools in the Bow Valley, Calgary and surrounding areas.

The Environmental Reserach and Studies Centre works towards the following goals: Being proactive in identifying emerging environmental education and research needs in Alberta, across Canada and around the world; Providing leading edge scientific environmental research and information for all community stakeholders; Ensuring students attending the University of Alberta recognize environmental stewardship as part of their citizenship obligations.

Kananaskis Country Environmental Education
Kananaskis Country Environmental Education programs provide teachers with diverse opportunities to study and achieve their curriculum requirements within one of Alberta's most incredible landscapes. EE staff provide direct programming to students in field study locations thoughout the region - opportunities are provided for kindergarten to grade 12 students. EE staff also conduct professional development workshops for teachers and mentor environmental and outdoor education skills.
Trimline Design Centre Inc.
Trimline Design Centre began over 4 years ago to offer you the newest in Renewable Energy Solutions and products. These include solar hot water systems for domestic hot water and space heating, wind turbines systems for producing electricity, solar PV systems for producing electricity, personal biodiesel processors for making your own biodiesel from cooking oil, and grey water recycling systems to recycle at least 30% of your household water. Increasingly, the biggest job has been to educate their clients about the technology and in response to this need, they have opened Trimline Training Centre: a state of the art facility showcasing renewable energy technologies with hands-on training.

The Wilderness Education Team is made up of dedicated volunteers who offer in class curriculum based presentations that introduce students to environmental education while meeting curriculum outcomes. McTavish and Nunn
Based in Canmore, McTavish & Nunn is a children's books publisher focusing on moutain environments. Our mandate is to publish educational books for children that reflect the true spirit of the mountains. It is our hope that in the creative telling of these stories (based on fact), we will engage the imagination and curiosity of children and encourage an appreciation of the beauty, joy, danger, fun and surprises that are found in the mountains. Full Circle Adventures offers programs that deepen our connection to nature, to the first people's who lived here before us and to the early Cowboy and homesteading cultures that depended on a strong understanding of the earth and her cycles. Hiking Sacred Places is a series of day hikes to special areas. Edible plant and wildflower workshops bring back the knowledge of the earth's beauty and gifts for people to work with and learn from.

SW Alberta Parks
Beauvais Lake Provincial Park is a protected area located in the montane sub-region of the Rocky Mountain Natural Region. This important and rare landscape provides opportunities for students to participate in field studies in fescue grasslands, wetlands, Douglas fir, limber pine, and spruce forests, as well as lower elevation aspen woodlands.
Bow Valley Mountain Forum
The Bow Valley Mountain Forum is an online portal to information from and about the Bow Valley - particularly information that helps residents and visitors get more involved in shaping the future of this region. The Bow Valley Mountain Forum hosts a number of online tools, including a calendar of events, volunteer listings, links to many local resources, and a library of one-page information briefs related to local ecology and sustainability.
Mountain Culture, The Banff Centre
Mountain Culture at The Banff Centre promotes understanding and appreciation of the world’s mountain places by creating opportunities for people to share — and find inspiration in — mountain experiences, ideas and challenges. Activities include Mountain Conferences, Mountain Summits, Mountain Forum, the Banff Mountain Book Festival , Banff Mountain Film Festival and World Tour, the Banff Mountain Photography Competition, and more.
Helen Schuler Coulee Centre
The Helen Schuler Coulee Centre is Lethbridge's urban nature centre. Nestled in the Oldman River Valley in Lethbridge, Alberta, the Helen Schuler Coulee Centre has been offering visitors a chance to experience nature first-hand since 1982. We offer year-round interpretive programs, for both organized groups (ie: school groups) and the general public. Our seasonal, hands-on exhibits offer something new for visitors to discover throughout the year as well. Admission is free. Three self-guided trails explore the cottonwood forest and coulees of the Oldman River valley in this 200 acre nature reserve. The Centre offers a wide range of informational services and resources to help you discover more about the local natural history. Individuals interested in taking an active role in their local environment can participate in our volunteer program. Training and mentoring is available for those interested.
Banff National Park of Canada
In the fall of 1883, three Canadian Pacific Railway construction workers stumbled across a cave containing hot springs on the eastern slopes of Alberta's Rocky Mountains. From that humble beginning was born Banff National Park, Canada's first national park and the world's third. Spanning 6,641 km² (2,564 mi²), of valleys, mountains, glaciers, forest, meadows and rivers, Banff National Park is one of the world's premier destination spots.

The Art of Musical Storytelling
Laurie Lynn Clark, musical storyteller for children collaborates with the Alberta Arts Council and Ghost River Rediscovery Cultural Outdoor Education Program to enhance art and music curriculum throughout children's Hospitals and Canada's Elementary Schools- Public/Catholic/ Native Reserve Schools. Laurie works in partnership with Educational Liaisons (teachers/principles) to reestablish the lost art of storytelling as a teaching technique: She integrates puppetry with song with hand painted illustrations as she delivers stories to a youthful audience (k-Grade 4). Children participate in dramatizing the story to create a performance project that includes the entire audience.

Brian and Company is a family run company offering children a variety of classes, including nature classes which explore local Lethbridge natural regions, introductory bird watching, medicinal plants and much more.

Alberta Environment's Education and Outreach Section develops education programs for the purpose of: increasing public awareness of environmental topics, enabling Albertans to participate in stewardship actions, and supporting educators and youth to engage in environmental stewardship.

Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society
The Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society (the Friends) was established in 1992 and became a Registered Charity in 1994. Most of the volunteer opportunities in Fish Creek Provincial Park are organized through the Friends. As a volunteer-driven, non-profit Society, volunteers are utilized in all Friends’ programs and activities and serve at all levels of decision-making. Volunteers run our Board of Directors. The Friends work closely with Park staff to help ensure that Fish Creek Provincial Park continues to prosper well into the future. The Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society: Promotes a positive and beneficial relationship between the Park and Calgary communities. Forms creative partnerships with the management of Fish Creek Provincial Park and other groups to enhance park resources. Sponsors and supports research and education in the natural sciences, environmental studies, recreation, park management, and heritage interpretation.
Medicine Hat Intepretive Program
We are professional educators and interpreters who manage the Police Point Park Nature Centre year round. We offer curriculum based school programming, public walks and events, ecotours, and rental of equipment. We work in Police Point Park, but also travel throughout south eastern Alberta, and into Saskatchewan. We present field trips or in-class programs on a variety of subjects, and are very flexible in adapting them to the groups' needs. Some very popular programs are time-limited and frequently book up.
Earth Day Canada
Started in 1994, EcoKids is a free, environmental education program that offers curriculum-linked materials and activities for Canadian elementary schools to engage in environmental action. Our award-winning EcoKids web site -- the centrepiece of the program -- is an interactive environmental web site for children, their families, and educators in Canada and around the world. It offers topical information about the environment through interactive, fun, educational games and activities that utilize participants' willingness to learn. Designed to inspire children to become life-long environmental stewards, EcoKids is an invaluable resource for educators, youth group leaders and parents.
Mountain Parks Heritage Interpretation Association
MPHIA is a non-profit organisation dedicated to establishing and maintaining high standards in heritage interpretation in the Rocky Mountain national parks. We provide a range of courses and services dedicated to training guides in local natural and cultural history as well as in effective presentation skills. We also provide on-going learning opportunities such as field trips, guided hikes, and presentations on topics of interest to guides.
Living by Water Project - Conservation Action Marketing Initiative
A workbook is being developed that will outline tips, tools and techniques that the Living by Water BC Project (LbyW) has developed and found to be the most effective in engaging audiences. The workbook, as well as workshops (and future webinars), help other conservation organizations with tips on marketing and being audience-centred, understanding audience needs, communication principles, and working with the media. The project builds on community-based social marketing. This conservation marketing initiative is being led by the BC LbyW office (250 832 7405). LbyW is a national project with regional offices; the Alberta Office can be reached at 780 427 8124 (Federation of Alberta Naturalists).
Alberta Irrigation Projects Association (AIPA)
AIPA is Alberta's number one resource for information about irrigation, its benefits to society, innovations, and stewardship. AIPA represents irrigation districts; farmer groups that use water to grow food and develop wildlife habitat and wetlands, supply drinking water for communities and industry, and create water-based recreational opportunities in southern Alberta.
The Global Education Project
Publishers of "Earth: A Graphic Look at the State of the World”: a wall chart, slide show and free accompanying interactive web site. Visually and factually stunning, this resource presents an unparalleled collection of over 100 charts, 15 maps, and explanatory text that summarizes the conditions of the world's ecology and humanity and how they interact and affect each other.
The Institute for Earth Education Canada
The Institute for Earth Education develops education programs that aim to increase understandings of ecological processes, develop feelings for the earth and its life, and focusing on the outcome of developing living lightly lifestyle behaviours in participants. Some of the well known programs include Sunship Earth, Earthkeepers, and SUNSHIP III.
Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park - Alberta
Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is an island forest in SouthEast Alberta and SouthWest Saskatchewan. The dramatic landscape offers breathtaking scenery, forest, grassland and wetland habitats, abundant wildlife, and excellent visitor services. Both sides of the park offer education and interpretive programs for a wide variety of visiting groups. Distance Learning education programs are in development... call for more information!
Hinterland Who's Who - Canadian Wildlife Federation
Hinterland Who’s Who is a Canadian wildlife education program that began in the early 60s. In February 2003, the Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment Canada and the Canadian Wildlife Federation joined forces to recreate the series with a fresh look and sound. The result is a series of new Hinterland Who’s Who public-service announcements in both English and French. They feature species such as the polar bear, the monarch, the leatherback sea turtle, and the loon. Hinterland Who’s Who now has a wide range of educational elements, including the traditional T.V. vignettes: an interactive website with feature videos and wildlifesounds, in-depth species description and issues, lesson plans and teacher resources, podcasts and parodies – even a “how-to” to make your own Hinterland Who’s Who wildlife video!

Amaranthe Education Services
Conservationist, skilled negotiator/mediator, classroom teacher, administrator, facilitator of student travel/study groups. Groups will learn about collaboration, negotiation and communication through interactive role plays, case studies and self-discovery learning.
Chinook Institute for Community Stewardship
The Chinook Institute (CI) is a charitable non-profit organization that helps people become more sustainable in their use and management of Western Canada’s natural landscapes. CI assists growing communities to plan for and manage change in ways that protect the important natural and cultural assets of a place; and supports local initiatives that promote responsible use, stewardship and conservation of natural landscapes. Our approach involves collaborative, values-based planning – building community and land use plans based on the expressed values and interests of local residents – and puts resources and tools into the hands of community members.
Safe Drinking Water Foundation
SDWF is a registered charitable organization. Its primary purpose is to find treatment and preventative solutions to make surface and ground water safe for human consumption. SDWF also has environmental education programs for teacher's use in grades 4-12 classrooms. Programs offered by SDWF include Operation Water Drop, Operation Water Flow, Operation Water Spirit and Template for Change.
Edmonton Naturalization Group
The Edmonton NatureScaping Group is an informal group of people in the Edmonton area who like to grow native plants and promote their use in gardening and landscaping to a wider public. We take part in a number of projects, in cooperation with the appropriate municipal authorities, which aim to enrich the natural flora of various parks and natural areas.
Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area
The Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area is a 4800 acre nature preserve located southwest of Calgary. It is home to over 565 species of wildlife and offers quality education programs for all ages. Students in Grades 1-9 can experience nature firsthand through our experiential, curriculum-based, dayschool Nature Discovery programs on topics ranging from insects to forests. With our Chevron Open Minds program ten classes a year enjoy a week exploring issues surrounding a year-long independent study. Families, adults, and children can also get involved in nature exploration and conservation issues at our Conservation Education programs and Nature Safari Day Camps.
Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation
The BCBC is a new research and education centre located in Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park. This year-round centre provides environmental education fieldtrip and classroom programs, community outreach programming, avian research and monitoring programs and field station facilities for visiting researchers.

The Alberta Camping Association is the provincial representative of organized camping in our province. The association works on behalf of seasonal and year-round camps for the betterment of the camp industry in Alberta
The Pembina Foundation/The Pembina Institute

The Parks Canada (Palisades) Stewardship Eductaion Centre
The centre is a youth stewardship education centre set in the heart of a national park and in the centre of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Not only is there the opportunity to connect directly with the many significant natural features of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site, but also within Jasper National Park there are five national historic sites representing heritage themes important to the exploration and development of Western Canada.
Clean Air Achievers
CAC is a national charity founded by retired national team athletes and professionals in the environmental sciences field. The Champions are comprised of over 130 retired national team athletes, Olympians and Paralympians from across Canada who share the common goal to improve air quality and inspire Canadians to adopt lifestyles that enhance environmental and personal health.
Parkland Conservation Farm
The Parkland Conservation Farm is a 600 acre working farm committed to the education of youth, producers, and the general public. Our focus is on water, wildlife, and soil conservation, which provide the basis for our Agro-Environmental Education Program. We offer field trips to the farm as well as outreach programs, and schools may qualify for our generous bussing subsidy. Alberta Agriculture and Food
Alberta Agriculture and Food encourages industry growth; facilitates rural and environmental sustainability; provides risk management programs and funding to allow farmers the opportunity to adopt the most viable management practices for their area; promotes and/or ensures appropriate safe food production and processing practices throughout the supply chain, including using science-based surveillance programs; and, monitors the adoption and implementation of food safety process control systems for, and in partnership with, the agriculture and food industry and other government partners.

Calgary Zoo - Education Department
The Calgary Zoo is an internationally accredited Zoo and botanical garden. Animals and plants are organized geographically to represent global ecosystems. The award winning Canadian Wilds section offers visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the plants and animals of our own local regions. Our goal is to inspire appreciation and wonder about the natural world, and to educate people about our connections to nature. Our interactive, curriculum based programs for school groups include 60-90 minute Discovery Programs, Zoo for a Day for secondary students, the week long Chevron Open Minds Zoo School, and Grounds for Change schoolyard naturalization. We also offer a range of educational nature programs for all ages.
SEEDS Foundation
I'm a member of the SEEDS development team that produces educational resources on energy and the environment for Canadian schools. SEEDS programs include the Green Schools program that includes the Bird, Literacy, and Water Conservation Challenges, the CloudSat Ground Truth program, secondary resources on climate change, and the Energy Literacy Series. Habitat in the Balance is a secondary decision-making program that will be available in 2008. Evergreen Theatre Society
A dynamic integration of theatre arts and science, Evergreen Theatre has been captivating audiences for 16 years. We tour schools throughout Western Canada with our unique musical theatre shows, and also offer science theatre residencies - programs in which we help students create their own interpretive science theatre productions. Our shows have been commissioned for the Smithsonian Institute, the Calgary Science Centre, the Calgary Zoo, and many other venerable establishments.

Provide funding and hands on consulting for school ground greening projects. These projects can include, outdoor classroom, naturalization projects and food gardens on school sites.
Weaselhead/Glenmore Park Preservation Society
Organize and participate in environmental projects directly related to the Weaselhead Natural Area designed to preserve and protect flora, fauna and the Elbow River and to improve the urban environment. Advance public education in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment, encouraging and promoting awareness. Provide field trip programs that are experiential, inquiry-oriented with hands-on learning activities for elementary to post-secondary students, and organized groups. Green Teacher
A Canadian non-profit magazine for youth educators. Green Teacher publishes innovative ideas and activities for promoting environmental literacy and global awareness amongst young people, 6 - 19 years in age. Recently, the editors launched an inexpensive electronic edition. Green Teacher has also published the following books: Greening School Grounds, Teaching About Climate Change, Des idées fraîches ä l'école, Teaching Green - The Elementary Years, and Teaching Green - The Middle Years. Federation of Alberta Naturalists
The Federation of Alberta Naturalists (FAN) was founded in 1970 and has become a provincially recognized voice for Alberta’s naturalists. FAN is a dynamic network of 33 clubs with upwards of 5,000 members participating in the study, enjoyment, and conservation of wild Alberta. For all those with a sense of wonder about nature, from the familiar and common wildlife of the urban landscape to the endangered and rare species of the remote mountaintops, FAN offers a chance to share nature with kindred spirits. In our modern environment nature needs more FANs.
Environmental Law Centre
The Environmental Law Centre (ELC) was established in 1982 to provide Albertans with an objective source of information about environmental and natural resources law and policy. The ELC's staff lawyers and librarian provide environmental and natural resources law and policy information to the public free of charge. The ELC library is also open to the public and the library catalogue can be searched online. Upon request, ELC lawyers may conduct presentations on a broad range of environmental and natural resource law and policy topics.

Watershed Creations Ltd.
Watershed Creations Ltd. has designed, and is currently testing an environmental education board game that is intended to augment science curriculum for Grades 9 through 12. The Game, Foulplay, is highly adaptable, and it has successfully been applied to both Grade 10 and 11 classes in Calgary. We are looking for more opportunities to test Foulplay in different environments. Ducks Unlimited Canada
We conserve wetland habitats, undertake diverse environmental and education for sustainable development programs at all levels, undertake broadscale research programs and work to promote positive landuse policies. Ducks has been operating in Canada for almost 70 years and reaches nearly 20 thousand teachers and 90 thousand students with its education programs each year. Our education programs are accredited through Green Street and Ducks received the 2004 award of excellence from EECOM, Canada's national EE network.
