The Alberta Teachers’ Association has annual events devoted to the professional development of teachers. These are great venues for sharing your environmental education resources and programs.
Teachers’ Convention
These events are organized regionally and take place in February and March of each year. To present at conventions, you apply directly through the convention committee. Applications start being accepted in the spring of each year. Click here to learn more about conventions and to view a list of conventions across the province.
Never applied to present a convention before or need some new ideas, read Dr. Noel’s Top 10 Tips for Submitting Convention Proposals.
Specialist Council Conferences
These councils focus on different aspects of teaching. See the website for full listing of all the specialists councils. If you want to present at the conferences, contact the Program Chairs seven or eight month before the conference. Here are some of the councils that apply directly to environmental education.
- Social Studies Council
- Science Council website
- Global, Environmental, and Outdoor Education Council
- Health and Physical Education Council
There are other groups who act as umbrella organizations for environmental education in Canada and North America. They also host annual conferences, see the links below.
EECOM – The Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication.
NAAEE – The North American Association for Environmental Education.
