Parks Canada's Mountain World Heritage Interpretive Theatre (Mountain WIT)
Who we are… A group of professional actors employed by Parks Canada. What we do… Write, produce, and perform interpretive theatre that tells the stories of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site in an interactive, entertaining way. This includes full-length interpretive theatre shows, street theatre, school shows, poolside interpretation, special event roving and community outreach. We are touring Alberta schools in May/June and September/October of 2009.
Government
The mandate of Mountain WIT: to engage audiences in the stories of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site through innovative interpretive theatre. This in turn supports Parks Canada Agency’s broader goal of fostering “public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment” of our National Parks and Historic Sites. To accomplish this, we write educational and entertaining shows about the mountain parks to tour to schools, special events, festivals, and partner sites (such as Heritage Park, the Calgary Zoo and Fish Creek Provincial Park). Our touring school shows have direct links to AB and BC Science and Social Studies curriculum.
