We help deliver on this Framework outcome:

Outcome 4-3: Increased interest in EE; Educators and decision-makers are aware of gaps in the environmental literacy of Albertans; EE programs emerge to address gaps

View the most recent update of new projects that deliver on this outcome>>

What we are currently doing to deliver on the outcome:

  • By teaching basic environmental education related to the curriculum, we foster in Albertans an understanding of the processes, cycles and impacts on ecosystems to better relate the terms and knowledge connected to environmental literacy, thus aiding in filling in educational gaps
  • Distributing ACEE brochures to participating teachers at conferences and expos to create awareness
  • Increasing communication and networking amoung similar organizations offering environmental education programs
  • Urging non-environmental based organizations to include EE content in their programing. This is mainly done through the Society of Educational Resource Groups

In the future we plan to deliver on the outcome by:

  • Working in cooperation with service providers from Calgary and area to create an easy one stop shop for teachers looking for multiple field trips with cross curricular connections
  • Identify the gaps that need to be filled in EE in Alberta
  • Develop effective ways to fill those gaps through the collaboration of participating ACEE stakeholders
  • Continue with EE programming with increased involvement and support of ACEE Framework
  • Share our knowledge and programs with interested organizations
  • Offer PD training

Measures of success:

  • Once EE principles are adopted by mainstream Albertan culture as "second nature", I will consider the project as being a success
  • Everyone benefits from increasing environmental education from increased awarenss and action to preserve and protect the environment
  • Teacher Evaluations are outstanding

The Weaselhead Society is a non-profit society that serves to preserve this area and to protect the integrity of south Calgary's water supply. With five distinct habitats and over 1000 species of flora and fauna clustered around a meandering mountain-fed river, Calgary's famous Weaselhead is our most ecologically interesting natural area and our most highly protected park.
