Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (Calgary)

We help deliver on these Framework outcomes:

Outcome 3-2: Teachers increase their willingness and ability to deliver EE to their students

Outcome 4-1: Increase in EE model schools awareness and understanding results in more ‘best practices’

What we are currently doing to deliver on the outcomes:

  • Offering in-class curriculum linked to EE programs delivered by trained volunteers
  • Maintaining and building relationships with teachers from previous collaborations to inform future programs in model schools so there is access to research information concerning best practices
  • There is an action component to our program to encourage youth engagement and foster model practices and greener schools

In the future we plan to deliver on the outcomes by:

  • Working on the development of longer-term programs that are "packaged" for teachers to deliver "out of the box" with support from staff and volunteers, facilitating the integration of EE into core curriculum subjects from K-12, as well as adult continuing education, Scouts and others
  • More research guiding standards to define 'model schools', including focus groups to inform the process
  • Continue to provide quality EE programs
  • Grow the organization to increase our ability to encourage EE action in schools

Measures of success:

  • More volunteer engagement
  • More volunteer teacher training sessions attended
  • Increased number of programs delivered
  • Excellent educator evaluations
